Graduate Admissions

The effectiveness of our recruitment and admissions procedures is of key importance to attracting and retaining the highest-calibre graduate students at national and international level, where Oxford is in fierce competition with the world’s best universities. Success in this area is crucial to maintaining the pre-eminent global position of the University and its colleges.

The Graduate Admissions Office responds to the top strategic priorities within the University’s 2013-18 Strategic Plan in further improving Oxford’s graduate recruitment and admissions processes, so that in this area we offer the very best services internationally. The Office supports the Graduate Admissions Committee and Education Committee, as well as Conference’s Graduate Committee amongst others.

Graduate Student Recruitment

  • Providing support and advice for departments and colleges in attracting and retaining the strongest applicants
  • Organising and attending open days, recruitment fairs and events for target markets
  • Developing and maintaining the Graduate Admissions website (3.2m visits in the 2015/16 admissions year)
  • Managing communications, including social media channels, aimed at prospective applicants
  • Producing films and animations promoting graduate life at Oxford to prospective applicants
  • Preparing print materials for face-to-face events

Graduate Admissions

  • Supporting applicants throughout the admissions process (40,000 enquiries about graduate study and scholarships received for 2015/16 entry)
  • Processing applications (over 24,500 received for 2015/16 entry)
  • Advising departments and colleges and ensuring a successful completion of each cycle
  • Working with IT Services on reviewing and implementing admissions systems
  • Developing admissions policies to support 330+ courses, 70+ departments and 43 colleges
  • Reporting and analysing admissions statistics
