AAD Staff Hour
From the world-renowed Ashmolean and Pitt Rivers collections, dinosaurs
and the dodo at the Museum of Natural History, to the Botanic Gardens,
historic Sheldonian, and ancient and modern colleges, Oxford is a
stunning city with plenty of architecture, history and culture to
discover. What better way to explore these fascinating venues and meet
colleagues from across the Academic Administration Division than on one
of the AAD private Staff Hour tours.
Hertford College, Monday 13 May, 12:00
Hertford College (in its various guises) is believed to have existed on what is now Catte Street since 1282. Repeatedly remodelled and restyled over seven centuries, the site today offers an interesting juxtaposition of architectural features and styles. An iconic Oxford landmark, the Bridge of Sighs, spanning New College Lane, connects the oldest part of the College, Old Building Quadrangle which features architecture ranging from medieval to nineteenth-century gothic revival, with the late nineteen and early twentieth century New Buildings Quadrangle.
Our tour will include visiting the College Quads and Chapel as well as the chance to cross the famous Bridge of Sighs. There is also the opportunity to stay for lunch in the College Hall after the tour. Tour duration: 40 minutes.
