Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) return (ox)

A periodic exercise conducted nationally to assess the quality of UK research and to inform the selective distribution of public funds for research by the four UK higher education funding bodies. As part of the exercise, the University reports on the number of research students and research degrees awarded during the assessment period (January 2001 to July 2007 for RAE 2008), and the number of research students associated with a returned supervisor on the census date (31 October 2007 for RAE 2008). Research Activity Survey (RAS) (ox)

As part of a general report on research activity at the University, it reports the number of Home and EU postgraduate students registered for a research-based higher degree as at 1 December. Contact pras@admin.ox.ac.uk  

Student Statistics

The student statistics provide a yearly overview of the composition of the student body, based on the census date of 1st December and include number of students, fee status, college, domicile, nationality, disability, ethnicity, admissions, results. Visit: Student Statistics.

Annual programme statistics (ox)

There are three reports covering undergraduates and postgraduates (taught and research) and providing an overview of outcomes and degree classifications, or progression and submission rates for postgraduate research, since 2003. Each report analyses the data by division, department, cohort, gender, disability and ethnicity. Further analyses use metrics appropriate to the type of student, such as fee status or school type. The reports will be compiled and published during December each year. View statistics in WebLearn.

Higher Education Statistics Authority (HESA) (ox)

The HESA return is a snapshot of the student population within the University. It is submitted in September each year, and represents the student population of the preceding academic year. Contact sdma@admin.ox.ac.uk

OSS Data Views (ox)

The OSS Data Views ensure graduate application, on-course individual student, programme, fee and assessment information is available to staff across the collegiate University. The Data Views provide a snapshot of OSS data in a format that is easy to interpret, download and manipulate. Access OSS Data Views.

Disability, Gender and Race equality scheme annual progress reports

The following reports include the results of monitoring undertaken with respect to disability, gender and race and progress made in the last year.

Resource allocation (student load exercise) (ox)

Student number planning model (ox)

Data on the student population at 1 December with modelling to forecast changes in student numbers based on Departments'/Divisions' planned intakes. Contact pras@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Higher Education Students Early Statistics (HESES) return (ox)

Reports data on all students studying for an award at the University as at 1 December (standard year courses) and 1 August (non-standard year courses). Contact pras@admin.ox.ac.uk.

Higher Education Information Database for Institutions (HEIDI)

Oxford University subscribes to HEIDI, an online database containing data about UK higher education. It contains a large quantity of institution-level data, which can be presented in reports and charts. Visit PRAS website.

Norrington table

The Norrington score, developed by Sir Arthur Norrington, former President of Trinity, in the 1960s, provides a way of measuring the performance of students at each college in finals.View Norrington table.

Final honours school statistics

Tables summarising Final Honour School (i.e. first degree) results are published annually, usually in October or November, and provide a breakdown of the results of the degree examinations held at the end of the preceding academic year. View Gazette website.
