An ongoing A-Z glossary of key terms and acronyms used within the Student System Programme to help navigate the jargon minefield.

A

ADSS - Admissions Decisions Support System: used by most subjects, colleges and Permanent Private Halls as part of undergraduate admissions process.

ADMIT - Admissions IT system: used by most subjects, colleges and Permanent Private Halls as part of undergraduate admissions process.

D

DAISY - Department Activity Information System: A bespoke in-house IT system used by the Social Sciences and MPLS divisions to manage students' enrolment on units or teaching, and to assist with planning and review of teaching provision.

DARS - Development and Alumni Relations System: The University's central database (supplied by BlackBaud) for managing relations with alumni and with potential and actual benefactors.

E

eVision - eVision is the name of the web interface which the majority of users across the collegiate University and all students will use to access SITS:Vision.

G

GSS - Graduate Supervision System: A bespoke in-house IT system for the writing and sharing of postgraduate supervision reports.

H

HRIS - Human Resources Information Systems: The HRIS Programme is replacing the University's current HR information systems and associated HR processes. Core International is supplying the new HR system, which is currently being implemented.

I

ICTST - ICT support team: provides desktop IT support services to University Administration and Services (UAS), Bodleian Libraries (the University's libraries), and Oxford University Computing Services (OUCS). ICTST and OUCS are now part of IT Services.

M

M.Ox - Mobile Oxford: An IT platform allowing Web-enabled mobile devices to access University of Oxford and City of Oxford resources such as bus times, library catalogues, and WebLearn.

O

OSS - Oracle Student System: the current core student record system used by Oxford.

OUCS - Oxford University Computing Service - now part of IT Services

OxCORT - Oxford Colleges Online Reports for Tutorials: A bespoke in-house IT system for the writing and sharing of undergraduate teaching reports, and for collating data on payments in respect of undergraduate teaching undertaken by tutors.

P

PEG - Product Evaluation Group: This group carried out the supplier and product evaluation phase of the programme.

PGR - Postgraduate research student.

PGT - Postgraduate taught student.

SAG - Student Advisory Group: This group will ensure students are consulted and communicated with as the programme develops.

SES - Student Enrolment System: A bespoke in-house IT interface, built in WebLearn as a front-end to DAISY, to enable students to enrol on courses (units of teaching). It is used by the Social Sciences and MPLS divisions for some of their courses.

SITS:Vision - SITS:Vision is the name for the new core student system.

SSMG - Student Systems Management Group: Provides strategic and operational review of the programme. Chaired by the Director of Student Administration and Services and programme Sponsor.

SSPB - Student Systems Programme Board: Provides high-level accountability and oversight of the programme and defines strategy for student systems development. Chaired by the Deputy Registrar.

SSP - Student Systems Programme.

SSRP - Student Systems Replacement Programme. Previous name of Student Systems Programme. Name changed in November 2011 to reflect programme aim of enhancement and development as well as replacement.

SSTL - The bespoke in-house graduate admissions system used by graduate Software Engineering programmes within the Department of Computer Science.

SVS - Student Visa System: A bespoke in-house IT system to create CAS requests and exchange CAS data with the UKBA's Sponsor Management System.

U

UAS - University Administration and Services: Collective term for central administrative departments of the University.

W

WIG - Workstream Implementation Group: Membership groups set-up to oversee the development and implementation of each area of the system.
