Green College Website
Overview: This is a graduate college, and is based next to
the Radcliffe Infirmary within a few minutes' walk of the Science Area, the
Radcliffe Science Library, Barnett House, and the Centre for Applied Social
Studies. Disabled prospective students should contact the College Secretary or
the Domestic Bursar.
College Site: Although access into Green College is good,
access to some ground floor facilities will require assistance; the College has
a portable ramp for use when required, available by prior request to the
Domestic Bursar. There is on-street parking outside the College, but with no
designated disabled parking spaces.
The ground into and around the College is made up of cobbles and slightly
uneven flagstones. The Porters' Lodge can be accessed via a threshold with
small lip. The pigeonholes are in a room off the lodge, door clearance 680mm.
From the Porters' Lodge you enter Lankester Quad; the bar is situated off
Lankester Quad, +1 stair, and +1 stair. Once there, the bar is on one level but
there are no adapted toilet facilities. The library has flexible opening times
according to student demand. It is on the ground floor, but accessed via +4
stairs.
The Office Block: With slightly raised threshold, houses
the Computer Room on the ground floor, and the Committee Rooms, which are on
the first floor, with, access by stairs only.
The Observatory: Houses the Common Room, which is on the
ground floor, +4 steps, and the Dining Hall, which is on the first floor.
Access to the dining area may be possible via a goods lift in the kitchen.
The Doll Building, with a gravel approach, also houses
ground floor bedrooms and bathroom. The door to the toilet has a clearance of
690mm. No tutorials are held in college.
Accommodation: There are several ground floor bedrooms
(main site). Some off-site rooms have en suite facilities, and there are a few
rooms that are large enough to share. All the rooms have internet and phone
access. Accommodation for single students and those with families is normally
provided for two years, and may be occupied all year round. - There are 60
rooms on site some of which are suitable for disabled students; some off site
rooms have en suite facilities.
The Walton Building: With a slightly raised threshold,
houses ground floor bedrooms of varying size and there is a wheelchair
accessible bathroom nearby. The door opens inwards, but there is space for a
wheelchair. There are grab rails for the toilet and the bath has a raised rail
spanning widthways, halfway down the bath. There is no shower. The largest
lecture theatre in the College is in the basement of this building and can be
accessed via an independently operated lift. The theatre has moveable furniture
and the majority of seating is on the level, excluding a raised area of seating
at the back.
Catering: For single students, dining room and kitchen are
shared with four to six others.
