Keble College Website

Overview: Keble is located close to the Science Area. It has experience in providing access to wheelchair users and also has a number of students with dyslexia. Prospective students who would like further information or wish to make arrangements to visit the College should contact Janet Betts, the Domestic Bursar on (01865) 282350.

College Sites: The main entrance from Parks Road is through a wicket gate that provides flat access into the College. It is flat into the car park, and this is accessible from Museum Road. Anyone with a special need would be given permission to park here. There is also an alternative entrance to the College next to the car park, which has flat access, though there is a heavy spring locked door. Ramps, a flat front entrance to the College and a lift to Hall provide essential access for wheelchair users.

The Porters' Lodge that houses the pigeonholes, is to the left of the main entrance and is +2 stairs but can be ramped to allow access. From the Lodge, Pusey Quad is to the left and Liddon Quad is to the right. All the staircases in the Victorian buildings are +2 stairs, but ramps are available and can be sited as required.

The main entrance to the Hall is +2, +22, +3 stairs from Liddon Quad; wheelchair access is via a modern lift located at the rear of the Hall. There is flat access to this lift via Hayward Quad which itself has flat access from Pusey Quad. The main entrance to the Library is opposite the door to the Hall and has a further +3 stairs with a heavy wooden door. The books are on two levels and access to the lower level can be gained by special arrangement through a door from Liddon Quad. Books from the upper floor can be located and brought down by a helper.

The computer room is located in the Pusey Quad, which is -13, -2, +1 stairs (handrail on the left), however, most rooms in the College have data points and telephone lines. A telephone would be provided for a disabled student and there is no charge to have a personal computer set up and connected to both the College and university networks.

The laundry is located off a passageway between Liddon Quad and Hayward Quad but is +1, -11, +1 stairs and has a locked door. The Bar is located in Hayward Quad and has flat/ramped access, although the Middle Common Room located next door is -7 stairs. The Junior Common Room, which is furnished with games machines, a TV with satellite link, moveable chairs and PCs for e-mail has entrances from Pusey Quad and Hayward Quad; both are +2, +1 stairs but the one in Hayward Quad can be ramped.

Accommodation: Keble can offer accommodation to students for their full three years if wanted. Some 250 rooms (out of 360) have en suite facilities, the remainder have their own washbasins with adjacent toilets and shower rooms.

The new ARCO and Sloane Robinson buildings, which contains both seminar rooms and study bedrooms are fully accessible with flat access and a lift to all floors, although the bedrooms in the ARCO building are not suitable for physically disabled occupancy. There is one study bedroom in the Sloane Robinson Building that is suitable for a wheelchair user; a carer could be accommodated nearby, linked by telephone.

Catering: All evening meals are formal, with waiter service except for Saturday; lunch and breakfast are service. The College provides a selection of vegetarian dishes and caters for special diets.
