Lady Margaret Hall Website

Overview: Lady Margaret Hall is situated in North Oxford, close to the Science Faculties and within twelve minutes walking distance from the centre of Oxford.

College SiteGeneral circulation throughout the College is relatively easy with level pathways, although accessibility to some College function rooms and social areas will present difficulties for wheelchair users. Disabled access into the porters' lodge is obtained through the large door from the front quad.

Deneke building, which houses the dining hall, the bursary, administrative facilities and a disabled toilet can be accessed either by a small ramp at the front of the building, or a ramp from the Chapel quad car park. There are internal ramps in this building to accommodate different floor levels.

A computer room for graduate students is located in the Old Old Hall building, which has a flight of ten steps. Computer facilities are also available on the more easily accessible ground floor of the library. The College library is entered from the covered passage at ground floor level. It is on three floors, but book access will be managed by the librarian by arrangement. There are three laundry rooms in College, one of which is disabled friendly. The bar has access problems, as a flight of four steps has to be surmounted. This is being actively addressed by LMH. The Middle Common Room is easily accessible as it is on the ground floor of the Katie Lea students' tower block.

Areas not accessible to wheelchairs include the Old Library (a function and social area, although a comparable alternative, Talbot Hall, is accessible by a stairlift and the Monson Room directly from ground level.) Certain administrative offices and tutorial studies are on the first and second floors.

There are induction loops at the Porters' Lodge and in two function rooms (Talbot Hall and Simpkins Lee theatre).

Accommodation:There are about 40 ground floor undergraduate student bedrooms and 8 ground floor graduate student bedrooms. 64 en suite bedrooms at higher levels are accessible via a lift. One of the ground floor rooms and 6 of the lift accessible rooms have adjustments for wheelchair users and those with other mobility impairments, and five of these rooms have visual and vibrating fire alarms.

Catering:Breakfast, lunch and dinner are available in the College Hall on a self-service system, although once a week a formal dinner is provided for members of the College and their guests. Provision can be made for many diets by arrangement with the kitchen staff. There are also many small, shared kitchens/pantries in all the accommodation areas that permit a limited degree of self-catering.
