St Anne's College Website
Overview: St Anne's is situated perhaps five minutes by
bicycle from the City Centre, just by the University Parks and near to the
University Science Area. The College has had a student wheelchair user for whom
access arrangements were made. There are fully adapted rooms and substantial
areas of the College are accessible.
College Site: The main accessible entrance from Woodstock
Road is via large iron gates (which lead to the car park) that are usually open
during the day. At night if you stay at the front of the main entrance, which
leads to the Porters' Lodge, the porters will be aware of your presence and
assist in opening the gates. Once through the gates, the other entrance to the
Porters' Lodge is ramped and fairly steep (assistance may be required). There
is also a flat entrance from Bevington Road to the left of the College.
To the right of the car park is the Hartland Building. There are two
entrances. The long way round to the main area of the College enables students
to access a sloped entrance that meets specifications. From the car park the
nearest entrance is via a small lip of 20mm. Inside is flat access to the
Hartland Room, which has a buttery, and the ground floor of the library. There
is a lift, which meets specifications (length 1140mm, depth 1m, width 900mm) on
the right inside the library entrance, which serves the first floor of the
library and the College offices. There is a fire evacuation plan from the first
floor of the library, which if students exit the library via the doors to the
right on the first floor, will enable students to access offices and a fire
safe area. Behind the Hartland Building is the Hall, with an entrance of +1
stair for which the College has wooden ramps (which meet specifications), which
they produce when asked. Inside there is flat access and moveable
furniture.
Opposite the Hall is the Claire Palley Building, which contains a lecture
theatre, which has flat access to the front, (the rear is +20 stairs) and the
acoustics are excellent, but there is no loop system. There is an adapted
toilet and payphone, both of which meet specifications.
The laundry is in a building close to Trenaman House, and special
arrangements can be made with the housekeeper regarding opening times.
Accommodation: The College can offer accommodation in
single study bedrooms to all those who wish to live in. There are three newer
buildings, many of the rooms have en suite shower and the older buildings are
renovated to a high standard. In the new buildings, four rooms were specially
constructed with disabled access in mind. All rooms on the College site have
computer network sockets in them.
Rayne Building: Accommodation has been provided in the
Rayne Building for deaf people incorporating strobe fire alarm, flashing
doorbell and vibrating pillow and induction loop.
Claire Palley Building: There is flat access to two adapted
rooms with low level light switches, high power points, microwave, fridge,
telephone, and fully adapted toilet and bathroom which meets
specifications.
Trenaman House: This is near to the Bevington Road
entrance, accessible via a ramp that meets specifications. Immediately off the
main entrance hall are two adapted bedrooms with similar facilities to the
Claire Palley buildings. In the entrance hall is a lift (which meets
specifications) down to the Junior Common Room, bar, TV room and computer room,
all with flat access.
Entrance to Graduate Accommodation in South Parade, Summertown is on the
flat with call assistance on the main gates and disabled accommodation has been
provided incorporating a disabled shower, on the ground floor of the building
on the left just beyond the main gates.
Catering: Students have the use of small kitchens on their
staircases, but for serious meals most prefer to use the main dining hall,
which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. We encourage communal dining, as it
plays an important part of collegiate life.
