Templeton CollegeKennington Road. Tel. (01865) 422500 Overview: Templeton College is a graduate college situated in wooded parkland on the southern edge of Oxford, approximately two miles south of the centre of Oxford. The college employs twenty permanent faculty staff, some of whom teach at the Saïd Business School, and others of whom work solely for the College on research and executive teaching. All students are members of the Saïd Business School. Templeton College can only offer limited accessible provision due to its location and the constraints of its building design. In the near future it is planned to create a more accessible student environment with the addition of accessible self-contained accommodation. Templeton College can provide access to teaching and dining areas with assistance provided for the wheelchair user. Students with special needs are advised to contact the College Academic Administrator on (01865) 422748 prior to their visit. College Site: Templeton has two designated disabled parking spaces available close to two accessible entrances to the main building. Staff may be summoned to assist and provide guidance by using the adjacent call points or by telephoning the Reception from a mobile phone on (01865) 422500 The College is also accessible by public transport using the No.35 bus from St Aldates (Stop H2, every 10 minutes), which stops outside the College gates (300m, slight incline to Reception). Taxis are available from the railway station or central Oxford. A location map and more detailed travel instructions are available on the College website at Templeton College, University of Oxford. The College is a two-storey and split level 1960's building on a sloping site. The main entrance to the College Reception is via steps that are inaccessible to wheelchair users. Access to the main wings of the College are via two additional and separate entrances. Access to the Fellows Wing, East Wing, Central Lower floor, the Information Centre, academic staff, or Executive Bedrooms is via a ramped entrance to the left of the main entrance at the front of the building. Access to the West Wing (main lecture rooms and dining room) is via a slope to the right of the main entrance. For both of these entrances it is advisable to request prior assistance for wheelchair access In moving around within the building from East to West, wheelchair visitors will need to exit the building and re-enter using the alternative disabled route, since there is at present no provision to by-pass the internal Reception /Foyer steps which link the two parts of the building. This will allow the user to move between the Information Centre/Fellows Wing to access the Dining Room and Common Room. Within the Fellows' and West wings there are split levels linked by steps, but these can be by-passed using the two stair lifts provided. The Fellows Wing stair lift will require assistance when used and involves a drop not for the faint hearted. There are unisex accessible toilets in both the Fellows' and West Wings. The College's main Clifford Barclay Lecture Theatre and Reception are fitted with an induction loop system for visitors that have a hearing impairment. Also available at Reception is a discreet and miniature personal mobile induction loop system (the 'Conversor'). There is also provision for hearing impaired visitors to carry a vibrating pager to alert them in the event of a fire alarm sounding. The College has trained staff present that are able to use an evacuation chair for the safe egress of disabled visitors during an emergency. The Information Centre at the main site may be used by prior arrangement by postgraduate and other students and researchers who need to use any information resources held uniquely by the College. Large print and Braille support is available by arrangement Accommodation: Students at Templeton are generally resident in one of the twenty student rooms onsite. Some students live offsite, in private accommodation. The accommodation is located in a separate building complex known as Egrove. This is also accessible by car and has parking for disabled users. Paths between Egrove and the College are gravel and entrances to Egrove buildings are not accessible without assistance. For this reason at present it is advisable for disabled visitors to travel between the two complexes by car. The College will provide any assistance that is required to use these facilities. It is planned in the future to make Egrove more accessible by providing a study room and self contained accommodation, including an accessible kitchen. This will also include access to communal areas such as the Common Room and IT facilities. Egrove has a Common Room and unisex accessible toilet. Catering: Meals are normally available in College for all students on weekdays during term, and at weekends and outside term whenever the kitchens are open to service executive short courses. Special dietary requirements are catered for as required. The Dining Room is accessible on one level and leads to the West Wing teaching rooms. Visiting non-resident students with mobility impairments can be individually catered for by prior arrangement. |
