(01865) 281180 Environmental Change Institute Website The Environmental Change Unit is a research unit, based in three buildings around the city. Graduates on both the MSc course and DPhil. programmes use this department. The MSc course is taught largely in the School of Geography, mostly using their Upper Lecture Room; access to this is by stairs only (see separate entry). Research and support staff are based at the Environmental Change Institute's two main buildings, 5 South Parks Road, or 1a Mansfield Road. All are available by email. The building at 5 South Parks Road is an old Victorian House with two entrances, and access problems. The main entrance is from South Parks Road and is +4 stairs with no handrails, to a door that is fairly heavy. Inside from the front entrance, the MSc Course Director's Office and the small meeting room can be accessed. The other entrance is from Mansfield Road at the rear of the building. A ramp leads to the door, both of which meet specifications, but there is a 30mm lip. In order to negotiate the lip and the door at the same time, assistance might be required - particularly as there is no doorbell. Students are asked to telephone or email in advance. Once inside the rear door, there is flat access to the administration offices, and a small computer room. Table clearance is 670mm, all internal doors meet specification, and a small meeting room is +5 stairs. Occasional MSc classes are taught here. The first floor (+5, +18 stairs,) contains a larger computer room, but it is not necessary to gain access to this room if studying on the course. From the first floor it is +2 stairs to the female toilets and +14 stairs to the male toilets. It is +4 stairs to the small kitchen. There is no provision for accessible toilets in this building. There are accessible toilets, and a ground floor kitchen on site at 1a Mansfield Road, 300 metres away. |
