Examination SchoolsPlease note: Estates will be reviewing all departments access information via departmental administrators during michealmas 2011 and Hilary 2012. If, in the meantime, you would like to update your information please contact disability@admin.ox.ac.uk. Some of the information is now out of date please contact the department or college direct for current access information. All students use the Schools as an examination venue, but the building also plays host to many lectures for non-science students. The main entrance off High Street is through tall and heavy wooden doors (+4, +2 stairs, no handrails). Once inside, all corridors meet door clearances and are marble with wide stone stairs to the first floor. All lecture room doors also meet clearances requirements. There are loop systems permanently installed in the main Schools for those with impaired hearing. The disabled entrance is accessed via a ramp to the left of the main entrance on the High Street. There is a video-linked buzzer entry system to the door and wide automatic-opening door. In an emergency, anyone with mobility difficulties should make their way to the Main Hallway on the ground floor or to the top of the main staircase on the first floor and await assistance. The lift is not for use as a means of escape during a fire. There are EvacChairs located on the upper floors and a number of staff members trained in operating the chairs. Emergency refuge call points for the disabled are located around the Schools and mobility scooters are available on request. If you require use of a mobility scooter, please do notify us in advance. With regard to examinations, special requests can be accommodated to provide more easily accessible examination facilities, specially designed question papers (e.g. large print or Braille) or other arrangements for specific conditions. Candidates should contact their own College Secretary, as soon as possible, if they have any appropriate special requests. |
