(01865) 270750 Taylor Institution, St Giles' Tel. (01865) 278154 Taylor Institute Library Website Modern Languages is housed on three different sites. All students taking modern language courses might need to access the facilities on the different sites. 41 Wellington SquareAccess is +5 stairs at the front of the building from 41 Wellington Square. There is flat access to the Faculty Office, and Graduate Studies Assistant on the ground floor. The first floor houses a computer room for graduate students. 47 Wellington SquareAccess is via +3 stairs and a smaller lip. The building contains the Slavonic and Modern Greek Library, situated on four floors. The books are on OLIS. The library is a lending library. The ground floor has flat access once inside the building. Access to all other floors is via steep steps. The library is staffed so the librarians could bring books to the ground floor. The ground floor gives access to one lecture theatre, which undergraduates use regularly. The building also contains a number of small seminar rooms, and tutors rooms. Taylor Institution, and Modern Languages Faculty LibrarySt Giles' There are several entrances into the building and two from St Giles'; both are up a few steps. The one at the side of the building towards the north has temporary aluminium ramps, which are kept inside. By specifications these do not meet safety requirements. This entrance would give access to the lower floor of the Faculty Library; an adapted toilet (the only one in the building), which meets specifications, the ground floor of the main lecture theatre, and a second lecture room. The only access elsewhere in the building is via a flights of stairs. The second entrance off St Giles' is up several steps, which are too steep to ramp. The entrance from Beaumont Street (across the Ashmolean forecourt) is via ramped access that meets specification. This leads to two entrances, which are both +2 stairs. To the left (north) are two lecture rooms and the porter's lodge. The disabled toilet mentioned above is -10 stairs from this floor. The first floor contains the main Taylorian Library, and can only be accessed via a flight of steps. The library is catalogued on OLIS, and much of the collection is available for loan. The reading room is located through the doors to the right (south) of the archway entrance. Again an initial +2 stairs has to be negotiated. The designated reading room, called the Voltaire Room, can then be accessed but assistance would be required as this entrance is locked. Modern Languages has previously had one student who was a wheelchair user and one who was visually impaired. |
