Department of Plant Sciences Website

This department is divided into three buildings, two of which (North and South) have limited access. There are handrails on all main stairs. At present disabled lavatory facilities are available only in the gentlemen's toilets in the basement of the South Building, although there are plans to provide a unisex disabled lavatory on the ground floor.

The main entrance to the South Building is +11, +2 stairs through double doors. The reception area is on the left. There is an alternative entrance on the left of the building (which is not labelled) through another set of double doors. These doors are locked but an intercom system can be worked independently. There is a stair lift inside this entrance up internal steps to reception level. From the stair lift on the ground floor there is flat access to a small meeting room to the right and the Schlich Lecture Theatre at the other end of the corridor. There is a goods lift to all floors. The lift's dimensions are within specifications, however, for safety reasons they have been fitted with concertina doors, which may mean the lift is unusable for some wheelchair users. From the lift there is flat access to the library on the first floor, which is on a split-level (+2 stairs).

To the left of the stair lift on the ground floor is the lecture theatre, which is -5 stairs with fixed tiered (+7 stairs) seating. The North Building can be accessed through this lecture theatre. During normal working hours the North Building can also be reached via a passageway linking it to the South Building at basement level, accessed by a goods lift.

The Rodney Porter Building has ramped main entrance. On the left is a lift that provides access to the teaching laboratory in the basement. Although there is a larger than usual toilet cubicle opposite the lift on the ground floor, there are no toilets with adaptations for people with disabilities.
