As some of the information is now out of date please use caution when refering to these webpages and contact the department direct for current Access information. St Cross Road Experimental Psychology Library Website Both undergraduates and graduates studying Psychology and Zoology will need access to the facilities in this shared building. The entrance to the building is via a dropped curb, and leads to a set of heavy double doors which meet specification, although there is a slight upwards slope and assistance may be required. There is a car park underneath the building but there are no designated disabled parking facilities, and permission has to be obtained before parking. Disabled parking can be arranged by telephoning in advance. There is a lift from the car park, which is fairly small but meets specification. The building has six floors A-F; of which only B, C, and D are regularly used by students (level B is the ground floor). The two departments mirror each other. The four lifts in the building go to all floors and, although small, meet specification. Access is flat on all levels. Level B: Contains the Psychology Library, three lecture halls, and an adapted disabled toilet that meets specifications. The Psychology Library is through a very heavy door, and assistance may be required. Table clearance is on average below specification, however there is an OLIS terminal, which meets specification. The photocopier is situated in a small room, which is not accessible and help would be required with this facility. There is no natural light in the library, making the rooms very dim. The library is on OLIS but operates a lending system whereby books can be taken out after 3pm but murear, and level A, to the front. Lecture rooms B has flat access from the back. Lecture room C can only be accessed via the stairs, as the lift does not go to Level A where it is situated. All three lecture rooms have loop systems. Level C:Contains canteens, the Zoology libraries, a seminar room, teaching laboratories, and a computing room. One canteen counter has a height of 1040mm, the other has a height of 900mm. The vending machines are at height 1550mm; assistance may be required. There is no access onto the balcony, a popular place to sit out for lunch in. The seminar rooms vary in size, a typical one has heavy double doors, with table clearance of 700mm. The undergraduate teaching lab has double doors, only partial natural light, and bench clearance of 700mm. The second half of the lab has desk heights of 920mm. The computing room has a very heavy door for which assistance may be required. Desk clearances meet specification. The Zoology libraries are accessed through a very heavy door; assistance may be required. The library is on OLIS, and is staffed. Space in the library is limited, and the furniture, though moveable is very cluttered. The average table clearance meets specification. The photocopier is at height 1380mm, and assistance may be required. The Alexander Library is at the rear of the main library. Again there is minimal space, and to access many books which are on shelves, assistance may be required. The OLIS terminals are +2 stairs in the Alexander Library. There is now an MSc room on this level, which has ramped access. Level D: Contains seminar rooms, tutorial rooms and offices, including the administration offices. |
