Higher Degrees

In 2015-16, Education Committee undertook a review of the University's 'higher degrees'. It received the report of that review at its meeting in week 5 of Trinity term 2016 and agreed to its recommendations. The key recommendation of the review was that the higher degrees should be retained subject to comprehensive reform of their regulation and administration, and that they should be known going forward as 'higher doctorates' to bring Oxford in line with the sector.

The review panel also recommended that whilst this reform is undertaken the existing Examination Regulations for the higher doctorates be suspended as of June 2016.

As of May 2018, the new regulations have been published and are available at www.admin.ox.ac.uk/examregs/2017-18/grforhighdoct.

Further information on the revised process is published on the main University website www.ox.ac.uk/students/academic/higher-doctorates.
