Pathway B: career progression

Pathway B is for BME staff at Grade 6 or above to support you in progressing your career – by providing access to senior staff in a one-to-one relationship, and by providing space to consider targeted career development.

While Pathway A may also involve mentees thinking about and planning their professional development, this option will be more explicitly focused on career progression and may be more suitable for those who know in what direction they'd like to progress.

How do I become a mentee?

Complete the Mentee B proforma (83kb) and send it to by Thursday 30 June. We'll match you with a mentor and you'll be invited to an initial session to meet other mentees and mentors and to start to identify what you want to get out of the mentoring scheme.

How do I become a mentor?

Mentors should be Grade 8 or above. In contrast to the circles, it is not necessary that you identify as BME (although we strongly encourage applications from BME staff). All mentors in the scheme will be invited to attend an initial session where you can discuss and consider approaches you might take, and a chance to ask questions and raise any concerns you might have about being a mentor; and which will include consideration of race awareness in relation to yourself and others and the challenges that may be faced by BME staff.

If you would like to be a mentor, please complete the Mentor proforma (81kb) and send it along with a CV to by Thursday 30 June. If you have any queries, please contact Laura or Machilu for an informal chat.
