Carbon Innovation Programme launches for new academic year

The University’s Carbon Innovation Programme has kicked off for its second year. The programme runs annually, from October to April. It’s designed to enlist the skills, expertise and creativity of Oxford’s staff and students to help the University meet its extremely demanding carbon-reduction targets, which oblige it to cut carbon emissions by 33% compared to 2005/6 levels by the end of 2020/21.

Over 50 awards presented at Sustainability Showcase

Building on the success of the Green Impact awards held for the previous two years, the event recognised and rewarded staff and students for environmental sustainability projects, ideas, and progress through the year, with over 50 awards being presented across five programmes.

Tree planting commemorates founding father of ecology

Three hornbeam trees were planted at Wytham Woods on International Forest Day, 21 March, to mark the forthcoming publication of Professor Charles Elton’s diaries and a display in the Oxford Museum of Natural History. The diaries cover his visits to Wytham Woods and the Oxfordshire landscape from the early 1940s when the Woods were bequeathed to the University.
