Background

The E-Science building provides much needed space for

The E-Science building was constructed to provide Comlab and OUCS with computing laboratory and research, teaching and computer training facilities and to provide a centre of excellence for computing sciences.

The Building

The new E-Science building is located on Parks Road and forms an extension to the Wolfson building and utilising land which was originally a car park and temporary storage area behind Keble Terrace.

The development includes the extension to the rear of three houses on Keble Terrace to form an internal three storey atria circulation area. The 28,750 ft2 building on four floors provides a mixture of office, training and lecture spaces with associated facilities. The different levels existing between Keble Terrace and Parks Road provided split level basement areas without extensive excavation works.

Programme

Construction work started on 14th March 2005 and the building achieved practical completion on 24th November 2006.

The funding came from: HEFCE SRIF 1; HEFCE PC3; HEFCE Teaching and Learning Capital Fund; University Capital Fund; Government research grants with additional funds from Comlab.
