Richard Doll Building
Background
The Richard Doll building provides a world class centre for the following institutions:
- Cancer Epidemiology Unit
- Department of Public Health
- National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit
- Clinical Trial Service Unit
- Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine
The Building
The Richard Doll was the first new building on the Old Road Campus site, with four floors providing 80,000 ft2 in three wings with walkways within an atrium linking each wing.
The facilities include research laboratories, offices and support spaces with basement plant rooms.
The brilliant white facade incorporates opening windows for natural ventilation with brise soleil shading, and internal heat pump system.
Programme
Construction work started in November 2002 and the building achieved practical completion on 4th April 2005.
