Midnight Oil Project
The University of Oxford has been awarded £61,250 from HEFCE's Leadership, Governance and Management Fund to investigate how we really use our 24 hour buildings, and whether we can better manage out of hours use to reduce CO2 emissions.Like many Higher Education institutions, the University of Oxford possesses a number of 24 hour buildings but little is known about the true usage of these buildings overnight.
The Midnight Oil project will conduct a study to assess usage patterns of four 24 hour buildings to be carried out by two Oxford Environmental Change Institute students and a qualified supervisor, in partnership with the University Sustainability team.
The results of the study will be used to recommend changes to overnight zoning and controls, reducing carbon emissions and feeding into a case study and toolkit for use by other universities.

The project started in September 2010 and will run until December 2011.
