Environmental Sustainability Team Responsibilities

Energy and Water

  • Energy and water audits and surveys throughout the University and on request by departments to identify saving opportunities
  • Provision of information on grants and loans to fund energy and water saving measures
  • Provision of training on energy and water saving
  • Arrangement of cost effective energy supply contracts for the University and Colleges
  • Central query point for billing and supply problems for gas, electricity and water
  • Production of internal electricity, gas and water invoices and energy levy charges
  • Checking of VAT and Climate Change Levy charges on utility invoices
  • Liaising with departments regarding unpaid utility invoices
  • Production of regular cost and consumption reports for energy and water
  • Provision of Display Energy Certificates as required
  • Provision of air conditioning inspections as required
  • Ensure conformity to EU Emissions Trading Scheme requirements
  • Ensure conformity to the requirements of the new Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme

Travel

  • Provision of grants for improving pedestrian and cycling facilities
  • Advice on the choice and availability of videoconferencing facilities
  • Development of an air travel reduction strategy for department
  • Answers to all queries and appeals regarding the University Car Parking Scheme and  Sustainable Travel Plan

  • Development of waste strategies for departments
  • Advice on waste management best practice and behaviour change programmes
  • Waste analysis
  • Advice on recycling contractors and companies that reuse waste items
  • Presentations and training on waste
  • Attendance at waste meetings (as and when required)
  • One-stop shop for any non-hazardous waste queries
