Reducing waste at source is the best way to reduce our impact on the environment.

How to reduce waste in the office

  • Use cups or glasses instead of paper or plastic cups
  • Print or copy on double sided printer paper
  • Set up all computers to automatically print on double-sided paper
  • Eliminate unnecessary reports and reduce report size
  • Eliminate unnecessary forms and redesign forms to use less paper
  • Share copies and don't make more copies than you need
  • Preview documents before printing
  • Use light weight paper
  • Remove duplicate and out of date entries from mailing lists
  • Reduce unsolicited post and junk mail
  • Use email for internal memos
  • Circulate publications and journals internally so they can be shared (e.g. The Gazette)
  • Ask suppliers to take back their packaging
  • Send e-cards internally instead of Christmas cards and consider donating the money you save to charity
