Reducing waste at source is the best way to reduce our impact on the environment.
How to reduce waste in the office
- Use cups or glasses instead of paper or plastic cups
- Print or copy on double sided printer paper
- Set up all computers to automatically print on double-sided paper
- Eliminate unnecessary reports and reduce report size
- Eliminate unnecessary forms and redesign forms to use less paper
- Share copies and don't make more copies than you need
- Preview documents before printing
- Use light weight paper
- Remove duplicate and out of date entries from mailing lists
- Reduce unsolicited post and junk mail
- Use email for internal memos
- Circulate publications and journals internally so they can be shared (e.g. The Gazette)
- Ask suppliers to take back their packaging
- Send e-cards internally instead of Christmas cards and consider donating the money you save to charity
