Funding Opportunities

There are several pots of funding available to support sustainable projects across the University’s functional estate.

Carbon Management Fund

Funding is available from the Carbon Management Fund for projects which will reduce the University’s carbon emissions. To qualify for full funding, a project should average £670 per tonne of carbon saved. This is calculated as the total cost of the project divided by 12 months of carbon savings.

Where projects do not meet this requirement there may be part-funding opportunities, which are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Typical projects funded from the Carbon Management Fund include: efficient lighting upgrades, building management system optimisation, loft insulation, and installation of renewable energy technology.

If you have any questions or would like to put a project forward for funding, please contact the Environmental Sustainability team.

Replacing Inefficient Equipment

Part-funding is available from the Carbon Management Fund to replace inefficient equipment, such as ultra-low-temperature freezers and glass dryers.

Further information is available here, and specific guidance about ultra-low-temperature freezer replacement is available here.
If you would like to make an enquiry about replacing a piece of equipment, please contact the Environmental Sustainability team.

Carbon Innovation Programme

The Carbon Innovation Programme is an exciting opportunity for staff and students to develop innovative ideas, develop a viable business case, and (if successful) receive funding to deliver a real carbon reduction programme on the University’s functional estate.

You can read more about the Carbon Innovation Programme here: www.energy.ox.ac.uk/carbon-innovation-programme

If you have any questions or would like to suggest a project, please contact the Environmental Sustainability team.

Green Travel Fund

Small grants or part-funding are available for projects that encourage sustainable transport within the University. Part-funding by the department is usually required.  Past projects have included: installation of departmental showers for cyclists, installation or improvement of bicycle parking facilities, and installation or improvement of departmental pool bikes.

If you have any questions or would like to suggest a project, please contact the Environmental Sustainability team.

Water Reduction Fund

Funding is available from the water reduction fund for small or medium-sized projects across the University that will save water, such as installing waterless urinals during building renovations or replacement water efficient laboratory equipment.

If you have any questions or would like to suggest a project, please contact the Environmental Sustainability team.

Biodiversity Funding

Each year a small amount of funding is available for projects that support biodiversity across the University’s functional estate.

If you have any questions or would like to suggest a biodiversity project, please contact the Environmental Sustainability team.
