Be part of Student Switch Off

Find out if your college is part of the Student Switch Off competition. Student Switch Off is an energy-saving competition between Oxford colleges with loads of prizes up for grabs. If you take part, you're in the running for prizes and cash towards your summer garden party. By becoming a college rep, you can also help encourage your fellow students to sign up and take part. Be sure to like Student Switch Off on Facebook to be kept up to date with competitions.

Green Impact

Green Impact is an environmental accreditation scheme that brings together staff and students across the University to play an active role in improving the sustainable practices of their office, building or department. More information can be found here.

Internships

The University’s Environmental Sustainability team offer various summer internships abroad that can be extended to year-long internships at the Environmental Sustainability team’s office in Oxford. These are organised through the International Alliance of Research Universities, which the University of Oxford is a member of. Applications are made through the Career Service’s International Internship Programme which goes live at the beginning of January each year. 

Become an Environment and Ethics Rep

On a college level, you can become your college’s Environmental Rep on your JCR or MCR bench (and if you don’t have one yet – why not set up the position!). On a university level, check out OUSU’s Environment and Ethics branch for ways to contribute. 

Deliver your own carbon reduction project

The Carbon Innovation Programme is an opportunity for students and staff to generate unique ideas for carbon reduction across the University during coming academic year (2015/16). This is an opportunity for teams or individuals to develop and deliver innovative carbon reduction projects which will make a real difference as well as gaining valuable experience and being in with the chance to win a University of Oxford Carbon Innovator Award. Student Green Impact Project Assistants

Student project assistants work with staff teams to support and encourage them through the year to tackle the changes suggested by Green Impact. This can be hugely rewarding, and only takes a few hours per month.
