Help with travelling by bus

The University offers a Discounted Bus Pass Scheme on particular routes operated by the Oxford Bus Company (including Thames Travel) and Stagecoach.

Bus passes not covered by this scheme can still be purchased through the University’s interest-free Season Ticket Loan Scheme.

Stagecoach are now running a “try before you buy” offer – to apply for a Megarider Gold one week ‘taster ticket’ which covers all Stagecoach routes within Oxfordshire please email info@easit.org.uk.

An interest free loan scheme covering 13 and 52 week season tickets from the Oxford Bus Company (including Thames Travel), and Stagecoach. 

What’s included

  • up to 10% discount off the standard price*
  • an interest-free season ticket loan, which is paid back through monthly deductions from salary over the period of the pass.

*All 52-week products (with the exception of the Smartzone card) are offered to university staff, all students and college staff with the maximum 10% discount. 52-week Smartzone products are offered at 5% discount, 13-week Smartzone products are offered at a standard rate. Smartzone card discounts are only available to university employees – this includes college staff and students who are paid to work on research, or other projects.

How to apply

If you’re a member of staff you will need your payroll number. If you’re applying for a renewal you will need your existing bus pass number.

If you’re a student or a member of college staff you will receive an email with a link to our online payment store once you’ve completed the form.

Park & Ride parking permit

The University offers an interest-free loan scheme for quarterly or annual P&R parking permits for any of the 5 P&R sites around Oxford’s ring road. The scheme is offered to all members of staff paid on the main payroll.

How to apply

1. Purchase the P&R season ticket:

Redbridge/Seacourt/Pear Tree P&R sites

Thornhill/Water Easton P&R sites

2. Fill out and sign the top section of the form (Season Ticket Loan Form (184kb) for reimbursement (remember to attach a proof of purchase – receipt or confirmation email)
3. Send the completed form to your Departmental Administrator who will authorise the payment and send the form to the Payroll Department (who will draw the cheque and arrange monthly deductions from the salary over the period of the season ticket)

Conditions

  • The amount of the loan should be less than the employee's monthly net pay
  • Under no circumstances can the sum total of loans exceed £10,000
  • The loan is repayable through the main payroll
  • Loan cheques will be made to the employee to reimburse them for a ticket they have already purchased

Note: discounted bus passes for some P&R busses are available through the University discount bus travel scheme.

Season Ticket Loan Scheme

The University offers an interest-free loan for the purchase of bus, train and Park & Ride car parking season tickets, irrespective of travel routes.

Discounted bus/train season tickets are only available through the University Bus Pass Scheme and Train Pass Scheme.

Before completing the season ticket application please ensure that your bus ticket is NOT covered by the above discount bus pass scheme.

How to apply for a Season Ticket Loan

  1. Check the cost of your ticket
  2. Decide whether you require the loan before or after you purchase your ticket: you must provide proof of purchase with your application
  3. Complete and sign the top section of the application form: Season Ticket Loan Form (184kb)
  4. Forward this to your Departmental Administrator for authorisation
  5. If you have not yet purchased your ticket, you will receive a cheque payable to the bus/train company. 
  6. For train season tickets
    1. if you have an easit photo ID card you need to present this when you purchase your rail season ticket
    2. if you are renewing your season ticket and are entitled to a Passenger Charter discount, you need to show your existing ticket
  7. If you have already purchased your ticket the cheque will be payable to you
  8. Monthly deductions from your salary will be taken over the period of the season ticket

Please note that staff are responsible for lost tickets and ticket cancellations.

Information for Departmental Administrators

  • The amount of the loan should be less than the employee's monthly net pay and must not exceed £10,000
  • The loan is repayable through the main payroll
  • Loan cheques can be made either to the employee to reimburse them for a ticket they have already purchased (you must see proof of purchase) or to the bus/train company
