Cycling and Walking

Cycling

The University operates a bicycle loan scheme enabling employees to purchase bicycles and related equipment via an interest free loan and repayment from monthly pay.

A mobile bike repairs scheme is available via the Mobile Mechanic.

The University has produced a podcast on efficient commuter cycling suitable for both experienced cycle commuters and nervous potential new starters. The podcast shows you how to efficiently negotiate bus and car traffic, be seen in the dark, manage the pedestrian/tourist threat, how to work around other cyclists and how to cycle more easily and get where you want faster.

Free training courses are also available for new, inexperienced or nervous cyclists. To book, please contact the University Sustainable Travel Officer.

Oxford currently has two automatic cycle hire schemes.

Cycle registration packs can be purchased directly from University Security Services. If a registered item is stolen, it must be reported to both the police (tel: 101) and the University (tel 01865 272944).

An email network for Oxford University student and staff cyclists is available. It's an informal low-volume email list to support bicycle users in the University and colleges. To subscribe, send an (empty) message to:

bug-oxu-subscribe@maillist.ox.ac.uk. To cut down on spam, membership is restricted to people with ox.ac.uk email addresses.

University staff can use the e-bike and e-scooter charging points for free in the Science Area (rear of the Dyson Perrins building) and the Old Road Campus (side of the Rosemary Rue building).
