Part 14 Withdrawal from Examinations and Non-appearance

  1. 14.1. This Part provides for candidates who wish to withdraw from any University Examination after their names have been entered under Part 9 of these regulations or who do not appear at the time or place appointed for taking any examination for which they have been entered.
  2. Withdrawal before the Examination begins
  3. 14.2. A candidate whose name has been entered for a University Examination may withdraw from that Examination at any time before the start or (as the case may be) date for submission of the first paper or other exercise in the Examination.
  4. Withdrawal after the Examination has started
  5. 14.3. A candidate who wishes to withdraw from a University Examination at any time after the start of the first paper or date for submission of the first paper or other exercise must inform an invigilator and the Registrar at once and his or her college as soon as possible.
  6. 14.4.
    1. (1) A candidate may not withdraw from a University Examination at any time after the start or date for submission of the first paper or other exercise in the Examination unless regulations 11.2-11.7 above apply to his or her case.
    2. (2) If the candidate's college is satisfied with the reason given the Senior Tutor must as soon as possible notify the Registrar.
    3. (3) On receipt of the notice given under paragraph (2) above the Registrar shall inform the chairman of the relevant examiners.
  7. Non-appearance at an examination
  8. 14.5.
    1. (1) Except in cases to which regulations 11.2-11.7 or 14.3 and 14.4 above apply a candidate who fails to appear for any part of a University Examination (including a viva voce examination other than as specified in (2) below) will be deemed to have failed the entire Examination or, in the case of a Second Public Examination taken over more than one year, the entire Part of the Examination.
    2. (2) This regulation shall not apply where candidates (a) fail to appear for, or to submit work in respect of, optional papers supplementary to the compulsory elements of the examination; (b) fail to appear for a viva voce examination which has the sole purpose of confirming their final position in a [Until 1 October 2013: class or pass list] [From 1 October 2013: Result List].
