Special Regulations for the Preliminary Examination in English Language and Literature

A

  1. 1. The Preliminary Examination in English Language and Literature shall be under the supervision of the Board of the Faculty of English Language and Literature and shall consist of such subjects as it shall prescribe by regulation.
  2. 2. The Chairman of the Moderators for Moderations in English Language and Literature shall designate such of their number as may be required for the Preliminary Examination in English Language and Literature and the Moderators so designated shall set these and such other papers as may be required.

Each candidate must offer two papers as follows.

  1. 1. Either Victorian Literature (1832-1900) (as specified for paper 2 in Moderations in English Language and Literature). Or Modern Literature (1900 to the present day) (as specified for paper 2 in Moderations in English Language and Literature).
  2. 2. Either Introduction to Medieval Studies: Old English Literature (as specified for paper 3 in Moderations in English Language and Literature). Or Introduction to Medieval Studies: Middle English Literature (as specified for paper 3 in Moderations in English Language and Literature). Candidates may not offer any paper in which they have already satisfied the Moderators in Moderations in English Language and Literature.
