A. Full-time students

  1. 1. Candidates must follow for at least three terms a course of instruction in Management Studies. Candidates must complete the following and may be required to attend an oral examination on any part:
    1. (a) all courses from Schedule A;
    2. (b) seven electives, the list of electives to be published by the MBA Director before the first Monday of the preceding term in which the elective is to be offered;
    3. (c) a written report on the Entrepreneurship project of not more than 8,000 words. Such projects must be undertaken in groups and approved by the MBA Director;
    4. (d) a written report on a consulting project of not more than 15,000 words. Such projects must be undertaken in groups and approved by the MBA Director; or two further electives, from those available during the summer; or an individual academic thesis of not more than 12,000 words. The titles of such theses must be submitted to the MBA Director by Monday of first week of Trinity Term in the year in which the examination is taken, and must be approved by the MBA Director. Three typewritten copies of the thesis must be submitted to the Examination Schools and addressed to the Chair of Examiners for the MBA, c/o Examination Schools, High Street, Oxford, OX1 4BG, by the date and time advised to candidates in the term preceding that of submission;
  2. 2. In order to obtain the degree of Master of Business Administration candidates must complete all the requirements set out in 1 (a)-(d) above and satisfy the examiners in the assignment and/or examinations associated with:
    1. (i) at least seven core courses; (ii) the Entrepreneurship project; (iii) at least six electives and a consulting projects/individual thesis, or at least eight electives;
  3. 3. Any student wishing to undertake an optional summer internship must submit a proposal to the MBA Committee for approval.
  4. 4. The examiners may award a distinction for excellence in the whole examination to candidates for the Degree.
  5. 5. In exceptional circumstances, a candidate wishing to take an examination later than the one to which he or she has been admitted may do so by application to the Chairman of Examiners.

B. Part-time students

  1. 1. Every candidate wishing to take the course on a part-time basis must follow for not less than 21 months a course of instruction in Management Studies. Candidates must complete:
    1. (a) all courses from Schedule B, and satisfy the examiners in the assignment and/or examination associated with at least eight core courses, including Understanding General Management;
    2. (b) eight electives, and satisfy the examiners in the assignment and/or examination associated with at least seven electives, the list of electives to be published not later than the first day of the first module of the second year of the programme;
    3. (c) a written report on the Entrepreneurship project of not more than 8,000 words. Such projects must be approved by the Director of the part-time MBA;
    4. (d) the Business in Emerging Markets module and satisfy the examiners in the form of an essay submission associated with this module of not more than 5,000 words;
    5. (e) candidates may be required to attend an oral examination on any of the above.
  2. 2. The MBA Committee shall have the discretion to permit any candidate to be exempted from up to four courses providing that the Committee is satisfied that such a candidate has completed equivalent study of an appropriate standard, and has passed the assessment associated with that equivalent study, on either the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Strategy, the Postgraduate Diploma in Global Business, the Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Leadership, or the Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation (previously the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Strategy) no more than five years before initial registration for the part-time MBA.

Schedule A

The following courses are required to be taken during Michaelmas and Hilary Terms for full-time students. Details can be found in the course handbook.
