Advanced Diploma in British and European Studies

  1. 1. Course
    1. (a) The course will consist of lectures, tutorials, and classes in the culture of Britain and Europe, with accompanying study in English language. Every candidate must take the course under the supervision of the Continuing Education Board for at least one year. Such study shall be pursued at Oxford.
    2. (b) The course will consist of four core subjects as follows:
      1. (i) Pre-sessional course
      2. (ii) English language
      3. (iii) British and European Studies
      4. (iv) Extended essay option.
  2. 2. Candidates will normally be expected to pass an examination at the end of the pre-sessional course before being permitted to proceed to the remainder of the course.
  3. 3. In addition, every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
    1. (a) A written portfolio of exercises based on the contents of the English language course, which will be of no more than 10,000 words in total;
    2. (b) Six assignments based on the theoretical courses in British and European Studies, each of a maximum of 2,000 words;
    3. (c) An extended essay normally of between 4,000 and 5,000 words in length (the limit to include notes) on a topic related to one of the core subjects of study. Assignments under 3(a)-3(c) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
  4. 4. Candidates may also be called for viva voce examination.
  5. 5. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Advanced Diploma.
  6. 6. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in any part of the examination may be permitted to re-submit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed for examination on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.

Advanced Diploma in Globalisation Studies

  1. 1. (a) The course will consist of lectures, tutorials, and classes in Globalisation Studies with accompanying study in English language. Every candidate must take the course under the supervision of the Continuing Education Board for at least one year. Such study shall be pursued at Oxford.
  2. (b) The course will consist of four core subjects as follows:
    1. (i) Pre-sessional course
    2. (ii) English language
    3. (iii) Globalisation studies
    4. (iv) Extended essay
  3. 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
    1. (a) Attendance at the taught courses;
    2. (b) A pre-sessional examination at the end of the presessional course. The candidate must normally pass this before being permitted to proceed to the remainder of the course.
    3. (c) A written portfolio of exercises based on the contents of the English language course, which will be of no more than 10,000 words in total;
    4. (d) Six assignments based on the theoretical courses in Globalisation Studies, each of a maximum of 2,000 words;
    5. (e) An extended essay normally of between 4,000 and 5,000 words in length (the limit to include notes) on a topic related to one of the core subjects of study. Assignments under 2(c)-2(e) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
  4. 3. Candidates may also be called for viva voce examination.
  5. 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Advanced Diploma.

Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in 2(c)-2(e) above of the examination may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed for examination on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.
