[1] Biblical and Theological Studies (Regents Park College)
- [2] 1. Course [3] The course shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars, and classes on the subject of Biblical and Theological Studies. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five years. Candidates shall take twelve subjects chosen from the Schedule below.

[4] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [5] (a) Attendance at the theoretical courses; students must attend a minimum of 75 per cent of the equivalent of 60 two-hour sessions;
- [6] (b) Ten coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,000-2,500 words or equivalent in length, based on the theoretical courses;
- [7] (c) A dissertation of no more than 5,000 words, on a topic of theological interest to the candidate, normally in the field of pastoral theology, the title of which shall be approved by the Course Director.
- [8] The assignments under (b) and the dissertation under (c) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [9] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [10] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [11] 5. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(b) and dissertation under 2(c) may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.

[13] Candidates must complete two of the three subject groups shown below. Only one subject group is available each year. The definitive list of subjects for any one year will be circulated to candidates before the start of Michaelmas Term of that year.

[36] 1. Course
- [37] (a) The course shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars and classes on the subjects of Biblical and Theological Studies. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a minimum period of two years, and a maximum period of five years.
- [38] (b) Candidates shall take twelve subjects, all nine from Group A and three from Group B. The definitive list of subjects from Group B for any one year will be circulated to candidates before the start of Michaelmas Term of that year.

[60] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [61] (a) Attendance at the subject teaching; students must attend a minimum of 75 per cent of the equivalent of 60 two-hour sessions;
- [62] (b) Attendance at six out of eight Study Days;
- [63] (c) Ten coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,500 words or equivalent in length or equivalent work for non-essay assigment, based on the subject teaching;
- [64] (d) A dissertation of no more than 5,000 words, on a topic of theological interest to the candidate, normally in the field of pastoral theology, the title of which shall be approved by the Course Director. [65] Assignments under (c) and the dissertation under (d) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.

- [67] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [68] 5. [69] British Archaeology

[70] 1. Course
- [71] (a) The course shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars and classes on the subject of British Archaeology. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five years.

[72] (b) The subjects of the course will be taught in three one-year modules. One module is offered each year. Modules currently available are:
- [73] Module 1: Early Prehistoric Britain;
- [74] Module 2: Later Prehistoric and Roman Britain;
- [75] Module 3: Anglo-Saxon, Viking and Medieval Britain.

[76] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [77] (a) Attendance at the theoretical courses; candidates must attend a minimum of 75 per cent of the equivalent of sixty two-hour sessions;
- [78] (b) Attendance in each module at either two practical weekends (four days) or approved archaeological training (minimum six days or equivalent);
- [79] (c) At least four one-hour tutorials; five if the extended project is undertaken;
- [80] (d) Ten coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,500 words in length, based on the theoretical courses;
- [81] (e) In the first module, one practical logbook, which shall not exceed 8,000 words;
- [82] (f) In the second module, one practical logbook which shall not exceed 8,000 words or an extended project which shall not exceed 8,000 words on a topic approved by the course director.
- [83] Assignments under 2(d), 2(e), and 2(f) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [84] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [85] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [86] 5. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(d)-(e), may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.

[88] 1. Course
- [89] (a) The course will comprise twelve units drawn from the Schedule below, and will be taught in two one-year modules, each comprising six units.
- [90] (b) The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five years. The course may be taken either in a distance learning mode or a face-to-face mode.

[91] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [92] (a) Active participation in all parts of the course to the satisfaction of the Course Director;
- [93] (b) Active participation in group discussions under the guidance, and to the satisfaction, of the Student’s tutor;
- [94] (c) Attendance at two one-week summer schools in Oxford (normally in July/August) or six weekend schools;
- [95] (d) Ten coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,000-2,500 words or equivalent in length, based on the theoretical courses;
- [96] (e) Two summer school assignments or two weekend school assignments each of which shall not exceed 2,000-2,500 words or equivalent in length; [97] (f) Two written three-hour examination papers, each covering the subjects taught in one module. [98] Assignments under (d) and (e) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [99] 3. Candidates will be required to achieve an overall pass for the assignments under 2(d) and (e) above and the examination papers under 2(f) above.
- [100] 4. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [101] 5. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [102] 6. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(d)-(e) and 3, may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed, for examination on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.

[118] Creative Writing
- [119] 1. Course

- [120] (a) The course shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars and classes on the subject of Creative Writing. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five years.
- [121] (b) The course will cover the study and practice of the craft of writing. A range of literary genres and sub-genres will be considered, and directed approaches to the analytical reading of work by other writers will be undertaken.

[122] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [123] (a) Attendance at the theoretical courses; students must attend a minimum of 75% of the class based sessions;
- [124] (b) Attendance at twelve forty-five minute individual tutorials, six day schools and one one-week summer school;
- [125] (c) Nine written assignments, each of no more than 2,000 words in length of prose, or 15 pages of drama , or 100 lines of poetry;
- [126] (d) Two end-of-year portfolios of written work, each of not more than 6,000 words of prose, or 30 pages of drama or 300 lines of poetry.
- [127] Assignments under (c) and (d) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [128] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [129] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [130] 5. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(c) - (d) may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.
[131] English Local History
[132] (Note: For candidates enrolled on the programme prior to 1 October 2011 one module will be assessed by a three hour written examination paper, covering the subjects taught in that module, rather than by portfolio)

[134] 1. The course shall consist of lectures, seminars and classes on the subject of English Local History. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five, years. The subjects of the course will be taught in two one year modules, offered in alternate years:

- [138] (a) attendance at classes; students must attend a minimum of 75 per cent of seventy two-hour teaching sessions;
- [139] (b) attendance at two residential weekends;
- [140] (c) eight coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,500 words in length;
- [141] (d) two extended essays, each of which shall not exceed 5,000 words in length, based on material taught during the course;
- [142] (e) two portfolios which shall not exceed 5,000 words in length commenting on selected primary sources.
- [143] Assignments under (c), (d) and (e) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [144] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [145] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [146] 5. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(c), (d) or (e), may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.

- [149] (a) The course shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars and classes on the subject of Environmental Conservation. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five years.

[150] (b) The subjects of the course will be taught in two one-year modules, offered in alternate years:
- [151] Module 1: Conservation and the Environment;
- [152] Module 2: Getting Involved with Environmental Conservation.

[153] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [154] (a) Attendance at the theoretical courses; for each module, students must attend a minimum of 75 per cent of ten day school sessions (held on Saturdays);
- [155] (b) Attendance at three linked weekend schools per module (or one one-week summer school per module);
- [156] (c) Six coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,000-2,500 words in length, based on the theoretical courses;
- [157] (d) Two long assignments, each of which shall not exceed 5,000 words in length, based on practical work;
- [158] (e) Two field notebook assignments, each of which shall not exceed 3,500 words in length;
- [159] (f) Two written three-hour examination papers, each covering the subjects taught in one module. [160] Assignments under (c), (d) and (e) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [161] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [162] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [163] 5. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(c)-(e), or the examination under 2(f), or both, may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.

- [166] (a) The course shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars and classes on the subject of the History of Art. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than five years.

[167] (b) The subjects of the course will be taught in four one-year modules of which candidates must offer two. Two modules will be available each year. Modules currently available are:
- [168] Module 1: The Late Middle Ages and the Early Renaissance
- [169] Module 2: The High Renaissance and Baroque
- [170] Module 3: Revolution to Modernity: 1848-1914
- [171] Module 4: Modern Art and Contemporary Visual Culture

[172] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following for each of the two modules to be offered:
- [173] (a) Attendance at the theoretical courses; students must attend a minimum of 75% of the equivalent of 30 two-hour sessions;
- [174] (b) Attendance at five Saturday Study Days;

- [176] i) Two essays, each of which shall not exceed 3,000 words in length;
- [177] ii) A research project consisting of no more than 8,000 words in length each, based on a subject of the candidate’s choice relating to the course material and agreed with the Course Director;
- [178] iii) A written three-hour examination paper.
- [179] The essays under (c)i) and the project under (c)ii) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [180] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [181] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [182] 5. Candidates must achieve a pass mark (40%) in each element of assessment in each module: the two essays under 2(c)i) taken together; the research project under 2(c)ii) and the examination under 2(c)iii). Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in any element may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of that element on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.
[183] Theological Education and Ministry
- [184] 1. Candidates for admission to the Diploma must have completed the Undergraduate Certificate in Theological Education and Ministry offered by St. Albans and Oxford Ministry Course and the Department for Continuing Education or an equivalent course of study approved by the Board of Studies.
- [185] 2. The Diploma shall consist of lectures, tutorials, seminars and classes on the subject of Theological Education and Ministry. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, may be taken over a period of a minimum of two, and no more than four years.

[186] 3. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [187] (a) Attendance at the theoretical courses; students must attend a minimum of 75 per cent of 60 two-hour sessions;
- [188] (b) Attendance at twelve Study Weekends and two one-week Summer Residence;
- [189] (c) A minimum of 160 hours of church placement work;
- [190] (d) Two block placements, each of at least 35 hours of supervised practical work;
- [191] (e) Three coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 2,000 words in length, based on the theoretical courses;
- [192] (f) Twelve coursework assignments, each of which shall not exceed 3,000 words in length, based on the theoretical courses;
- [193] (g) Submission of satisfactory reports from placement supervisors covering the block placements and from academic and personal tutors covering the student's progress on the remainder of the course. [194] Assignments under (e) and (f) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [195] 4. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course.
- [196] 5. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Diploma.
- [197] 6. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(e)-(f) may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.
