(i) ADVANCED DIPLOMAS (TWO YEAR PART-TIME)
[1] Undergraduate Advanced Diploma in Archaeological Practice

[2] 1. Course
- [3] (a) The course will consist of lectures, classes, seminars and tutorials in Archaeological Practice. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, will normally be taken over a period of two, and no more than five, years.
- [4] (b) The subjects of the course of study will include topics relevant to landscape archaeology, material culture, environmental and scientific archaeology.

[5] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [6] (a) Attendance at the taught courses and at one week’s prescribed practical fieldwork;
- [7] (b) Six assignments of between 2,000 and 2,500 words based on the taught courses;
- [8] (c) One long assignment of up to 5,000 words (including appendices);
- [9] (d) A practical logbook of up to 5,000 words per module which is assessed separately at the end of each module but also extends to both years as a continuing project;
- [10] (e) A dissertation of up to 10,000 words (including appendices) on a topic agreed by the Board of Studies. [11] Assignments under 2(b)-2(c), the logbook under 2(d), and the dissertation under 2(e) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [12] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course of studies.
- [13] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Advanced Diploma.
- [14] 5. Candidates who fail to satisfy the examiners in the assignments under 2(b)-2(c), or the logbook under 2(d), or the dissertation under 2(e), may be permitted to resubmit work in respect of the part or parts of the examination which they have failed for examination on not more than one occasion which shall normally be within one year of the initial failure.
[15] Advanced Diploma in Environmental Conservation

[16] 1. Course
- [17] (a) The course will consist of lectures, classes, seminars, and tutorials in Environmental Conservation. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, will normally be taken over a period of two, and no more than five, years.

[18] (b) The subjects of the course of study will be taught in two one-year modules, entitled:
- [19] 1 Environmental Change and Issues
- [20] 2 Conservation Management
- [21] One module will be offered each year.

[22] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [23] (a) Attendance at the taught courses and at practical fieldwork sessions;
- [24] (b) Eight assignments of between 2,000 and 2,500 words in length, based on the taught courses;
- [25] (c) Two field notebooks based on the practical fieldwork, each of which shall not exceed 5,000 words in length;
- [26] (d) One long assignment of up to 5,000 words (excluding appendices and bibliography);
- [27] (e) A dissertation of up to 10,000 words (excluding appendices and bibliography) on a topic agreed by the Board of Studies. [28] Assignments under 2(b)-2(d) and the dissertation under (e) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.

[32] Advanced Diploma in the History of Art

[33] 1. Course
- [34] (a) The course will consist of lectures, classes, seminars, and tutorials in the History of Art. The course, which is available on a part-time basis only, will normally be taken over a period of two, and no more than five, years.

[35] (b) The subjects of the course will be taught in two one-year modules, entitled:
- [36] 1 Art and Architecture from 1900 to 1945
- [37] 2 Art and Architecture since 1945
- One module will be offered each year. Students must complete Module 1 before proceeding to Module 2.

[38] 2. Every candidate will be required to satisfy the examiners in the following:
- [39] (a) Attendance at the taught courses and at study visits;
- [40] (b) Ten assignments, each of 2,000 words in length, based on the taught courses;
- [41] (c) One long assignment of up to 5,000 words (including appendices);
- [42] (d) A dissertation of up to 10,000 words (including appendices) on a topic agreed by the Board of Studies. [43] Assignments under 2(b)-2(c) and the dissertation under 2(d) will be forwarded to the examiners for consideration by such dates as the examiners shall determine and shall notify candidates.
- [44] 3. Candidates may be required to attend a viva voce examination at the end of the course of studies.
- [45] 4. The examiners may award a distinction to candidates for the Advanced Diploma.
- [46] 5.
