Insurance

The Insurance Team arranges cover for the University's property, motor vehicles, travel and legal liabilities such as employers' liability and professional indemnity. Certain specific 'ad-hoc' covers are also arranged.

Insurance matters connected with the University's research portfolio, including clinical trials and consultancies, are handled by Research Services.

The Self Assurance Process requires Departmental Administrators to comply with the following:

  1. All forthcoming plans, events or purchases, which involve risk to the University in the way of property, equipment, vehicles or incurrence of costs, and all incidences, situations and possibilities which could give rise to an insurance claim, are always notified to the Insurance Team.
  2. All claims are notified to the Insurance Team in accordance with the claim procedures as stated by the insurance process and policies.

Oxford Mutual Limited

Oxford Mutual Ltd (OML) was set up in August 2006 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the University to arrange and manage certain areas of the University's insurances. OML funds the first £100,000 of every claim in relation to property, motor, and liability insurance claims, subject to a defined maximum. The creation of OML has provided a focal point for the management of insurance claims and risks, also promoting risk awareness throughout the University.

OML Risk Management Funding

OML has introduced a fund to offer financial assistance to departments to encourage them to put risk reduction initiatives in place - see how to apply for Risk Management Funding.
