Liability Insurance
The University insures against damages and associated legal costs arising from those acts or omissions for which it may be legally liable.
This includes a Public Liability/Products Liability Insurance, which operates (where the University is found to be legally liable) in respect of death, injury, loss of or damage to property, to those who are not employees of the University.
The Employers' Liability Insurance fulfils the requirements of the Employers' Liability Act, and as well as operating in respect of all employees of the University, it also automatically provides an indemnity to the University for any work experience placements undertaking work within the University.
Administrators should display a copy of the University's Employers' Liability Certificate 12-13
(68kb) (University access only) in a prominent place, such as a staff noticeboard at each functional location.
The University also has a Professional Indemnity policy, which operates, amongst other things, for any claims that might be made against the University or its staff arising from a breach of professional duty.
With all Legal Liability insurances, cover operates only for those acts or omissions for which there is a liability at law.
