Leaving OSPS

Retirement

If a member informs you that they are retiring please send in a payroll leaving form clearly marked ‘retirement’ as soon as possible. If you are using HRIS, please complete the relevant section as soon as possible and ensure that retirement is given as the reason for leaving. Ideally, this should be completed at least 8 weeks prior to the retirement, although in practice we can work to less notice. It would be helpful if you could notify us by email that you have sent in a payroll leaving form for a retiree as we do not always receive our copy immediately.

On receipt of the leaving form or HRIS notification, we will calculate the final benefits and send the member details of their retirement options along with the necessary forms to set up the benefits. We will not send out retirement papers more than three months in advance of retirement.

If the retirement date changes it would be extremely helpful if you could let us know before the original retirement date. This will avoid incorrect payment of benefits. Also, if you know there has been a change in salary details, such as a drop in hours, which will reduce benefits it would be very useful to know in advance so that we can avoid overpayment.
