Note: Departmental accruals must be posted for values greater than £100k. For values less than £100k, the posting of accruals is optional.

1. Working Day 5/6: you should review your Departmental Income and Expenditure Report to identify required accruals.

2. Accruals should be posted for outstanding transactions. Refer to Enter, Post and Reverse an Accruals Journal (484kb) for further guidance. You should maintain a full audit trail and supporting documentation for such journals. This can be done by running and filing an Audit Report, see Print an Audit Report in the General Ledger (261kb), or by completing a Journal Log (84kb).

Certain transactions are excluded from accruals accounting. It is important to take the Accruals Accounting Exclusion List (34kb) into account when considering the need for accruals.

Where an accrual is found to be incorrect, the Financial Reporting Team will adjust as required and communicate the change back to the relevant Department.

3. Working Day 6: Department accounts finalised.

4. End of Working Day 7: GL closed by Financial Systems Management.

5. Working Day 8: Income and Expenditure Mid-level Report will be sent to Departmental Administrators which summarises accruals for the month.
