Research

Research Accounts is responsible for raising claims, invoices and statements to research customers, and for managing research debt. The team also sets up and amends research awards on the grants module of Oracle Financials, and is responsible for all internal and external reporting on the financial aspects of research.

Research income in 2009/10 was over £365m. There are several thousand research projects in operation at any one time, funded by over 750 customers. The team works closely with departmental finance officers and administrators, and with Research Support, which is responsible for managing pre-award activities with departments.

Changes to equipment set up on FEC research projects

From 4 January 2011, the way that FEC awards with high-value equipment budgets are set up will change.

Overseas Transactions Changes

On 1 January 2010, the EU rules for VAT on services sold to overseas customers or purchased from overseas suppliers changed. The potential impact on research awards was outlined in a Letter from the Head of Research Accounts (55kb) sent on 10 December 2009 to Departmental Administrators and Finance Officers.

Research Councils have revised their core terms and conditions
