Welcoming graduate students to Oxford

The Graduate Accommodation team held a successful welcome reception for their graduate students on October 21.

The event took place in the award-winning Blavatnik School of Government. Graduates and their partners enjoyed drinks and nibbles while getting to know their neighbours as well as meeting the staff of the Graduate Accommodation Office. Also in attendance were other parts of the University, including the Student Advice Service, the Environmental Sustainability team, Security Services and Cycle Land, a recently launched bike-sharing initiative sponsored by the University.

“I was delighted with the invitation and this charming event at the Blavatnik,” said graduate student Lemilson Almeida, a resident of the Castle Mill graduate housing development. “It was a wonderful welcome event on Friday, and we enjoyed it,” added DPhil student Yang Zheng.

The reception was such a success that the Graduate Accommodation team are now planning follow-up events over the next couple of weeks. These will take the form of tea parties, aimed in particular at graduate students with partners and children – there will even be lucky dips and other games to keep youngsters entertained. These will be held at Summertown House and Court Place Gardens in East Oxford; more details to follow.
