Departmental administrator induction and probation procedures
A new Administrator is a significant appointment within any department and it vital that the full range of duties is rapidly understood and undertaken efficiently and effectively.
This guide outlines recommended procedures for the induction and review of probationary progress for new departmental administrators. These procedures are designed to ensure that support to the new Administrator and his or her integration into the department and wider university community progresses as planned, from the viewpoint of the individual, the department, the division and the University as a whole. This guidance should be read in conjunction with the Personnel Services advice on induction and probation for all staff.
Please note, in this guide 'Administrator' means the lead administrator in the department whatever the actual title of the post.
The principles in this guide should also be followed for the induction and probation of academic-related Deputy Administrators and equivalent staff, e.g. Finance Administrator, Personnel Manager, etc. However, where the guide refers to the Head of Department reference to the department’s Administrator should be substituted; and there is no requirement for a report to the Registrar in such cases.
The guide includes the following sections, annex and attachments:
- Principles of the procedures
- Linking procedures to departmental objectives
- Induction procedures
- Probationary review procedures
- University administrative procedures
