The length of notice of termination of employment given by the University will normally be that stated in the employee’s letter of appointment/contract.
There are certain minimum periods laid down by legislation:
- one week if continuous employment is less than two years;
- not less than one week's notice for each year of continuous employment if the period of continuous employment is two years or more, but less than twelve years;
- not less than twelve weeks' notice if the period of continuous employment is twelve years or more.
In certain cases the reasons for dismissal on grounds of conduct may be such that dismissal is summary, that is without notice and without payment in lieu of notice.
