Resignation

A member of staff may terminate his or her appointment (i.e. resign) at any time, subject to the agreed period of notice. 

Notice to terminate (resignation) should be given to the department in writing.

The period of notice which the member of staff is obliged to give to terminate their appointment is laid down in their letter of appointment (contract). Otherwise, the minimum period of such notice is one week, but a department may exercise its discretion to require a longer period of notice, which is likely to be not less than the ordinary period from one payment of salary to the next. That is, if a person is paid monthly he or she would be expected to give at least a month's notice on resignation.
