Does the post need to be advertised?
In most cases it will be necessary to advertise the vacancy internally on the University’s jobs and vacancies web pages as a minimum. However, there may be circumstances where appointment without advertisement would be appropriate. In all cases, before proceeding to advertise a vacancy, departments should consider whether the post might present a redeployment opportunity for any suitably qualified university employee who is coming towards the end of a fixed-term contract, or whose post is otherwise at risk of redundancy.
Approvals
Where appropriate, prior to advertising, the role should be graded, the funding source confirmed, and approval to advertise (either internally or externally as required) obtained in accordance with the University’s Recruitment Protocol.
