Structuring your advert
The aim of the job advert is to attract appropriate interest, communicate quickly and clearly the essential (appealing and relevant) aspects of the job, and to provide clear information about how to apply.
Effective job adverts usual follow the classic AIDA format:
- Attention
- Interest
- Desire
- Action
- Attract attention (from appropriate job-seekers). This is usually achieved through a banner, headline (job title), or first sentence.
- Attract relevant interest (by establishing relevance in the minds of the ideal candidates).
- Create desire to pursue the opportunity, without overselling the role - if you paint an unrealistic picture you may attract a large field of unsuitable applicants, which is administratively time-consuming to process.
- Provide a clear instruction for the next action - how to apply, how to get additional information - which may be to visit a website or call a telephone number.
Length of advert text
In order to fit into the space available with the e-recruitment module, the advert text can be no longer than 1980 characters (250-300 words) excluding additional salary, contact, and application details.
Including hyperlinks in your advert in CoreHR
If you wish to include a link to a website or e-mail address within your advert text, bear in mind that when using CoreHR you will need to include HTML coding to ensure the link works. Refer to Placing links within advert text
(26kb) for guidance.
