Externally funded salaries
Staff salary scales are normally reviewed with effect from 1 August of each year (or 1 April for clinical grades) in response to nationally agreed salary settlements, where these are approved by Council for implementation at Oxford. It is most important that outside grants, wherever possible, provide not only for incremental progress each year but also, where appropriate, for merit pay, and inflation uplifts. As regards merit pay, some funding bodies fund these routinely and specify that grant applications should not encompass this factor in the costings. In other cases, however, grant applications should explicitly include provision for both incremental and inflation increases during the period of the grant.
