Erasmus Staff Mobility Scheme

Erasmus is the European Commission's flagship educational programme for Higher Education students, teachers, and institutions and was introduced with the aim of increasing student mobility within Europe.

Erasmus funding is not only available for students but for staff as well. Members of academic teaching staff employed by the University of Oxford may be eligible for funding to undertake a short period of teaching at another institution that participates in Erasmus.

While a number of students at Oxford have participated in the scheme, thus far very few staff have done so. In 2009-10 four of our staff used the scheme for experience in European institutions and we received 11 incoming members of staff through it. It has been suggested that, in the context of our commitment to staff development and training for new staff as well as our overall international strategy, departments might wish to consider whether a more strategic use of teacher mobility might be mutually enriching and strengthen links with designated partners.
