VRS - Information for staff

In light of the University’s current financial position a Voluntary Redundancy Scheme (VRS) is being introduced for University-funded support and academic-related staff. The scheme will run until 31 July 2017 in the first instance. The overarching aim of VRS is to reduce staffing costs through voluntary means by identifying activity that could be reduced and matching it with the wishes of individual staff members to leave the University.

Departments have been asked to consider the activities carried out by University-funded academic-related and support staff and consider whether there are areas of activity that could be reorganised, reduced or stopped.  Where departments identify particular posts that could potentially be closed, the staff in those posts will be offered the option to resign voluntarily in return for a VRS payment. No compulsory redundancies are currently planned under this scheme and there will be no obligation to accept such an offer.
