The guidance on this website refers only to UAS staff. For University-wide guidance please see the Personnel Services website.

The probationary period for both university support staff and academic-related staff in permanent positions within UAS is normally 12 months.

The probation periods for employees appointed on fixed term contracts of employment should reflect the length of the contract: normally the probation period should be half the length of the contract, up to a maximum of 12 months.

The progress of a probationary employee should normally be reviewed no later than halfway through the probationary period and again towards the end of the probationary period, using the forms provided.

The mid and end probation forms should be returned to the UAS Personnel Enquiry mailbox to update the probation records.  On receipt of the end of probation form, the UAS Personnel Team generate a letter for the employee confirming them in post. Full details of the University's policy on probation can be found in the staff handbooks.

If the probation period passes without any forms being returned to UAS Personnel then the staff member is automatically confirmed in post without a letter.
