Research Information Management Sub-Committee

Terms of Reference

As approved by Research Committee 29 October 2009. The Sub-Committee will report in an advisory capacity to Research Committee on the following:

Strategic consideration of the management of information for enhancing the research mission of the University, and liaison with the Registrar on the wider issues of information management as far as they affect research.
Oversight of strategy for collection and organisation of data on inputs, outputs and research environment to meet the requirements of the Research Excellence Framework (REF), including academic review and input into the implementation policy for the Symplectic Publications Management System.
Provision of an arena for liaison on the requirements for managing information on impact factors arising from research grants for RCUK; identification and recording of impact factors from Knowledge Exchange, including wider activities; and on economic and social impact factors for the REF.
Provide a forum for coordinating research data collection for appropriate areas that are not covered by the Symplectic Publications Management System.

In addition to the strategic tasks listed above the Sub-Committee will:

Provide assurance that the technical decisions relating to systems are co-ordinated, and consistent with the academic mission.
Review proposals for operational university-wide research information management systems.
Recommend, to Research Committee, support for bids to PRAC through Budget Sub-Committee, for research systems.
