This Research Support website is a joint website of Research Services and Research Accounts. We work in partnership and together with colleagues in the Academic Divisions, Departments, Research Facilitators, Isis Innovation and the University Administration and Services (UAS) to provide comprehensive support to researchers across the research lifecycle. Research Services
Supporting the grant process
including advice on targeting the right opportunities, sponsor requirements and their review processes, using the various electronic submission systems; reviewing and authorising applications; accepting awards; coordinating reporting; and sponsor liaison.
Negotiating research-related contracts and agreements
including with other universities, companies or government departments to ensure that the terms are consistent with the University's policies and academic mission
Advising on the costing and pricing of research at Oxford
including the requirements for Full Economic Costing (FEC) of all projects and the use of X5
Supporting University and Divisional research-related planning
including through policy development, performance analysis and reporting, discussion, and advice to Senior Officers
Promoting the responsible conduct of research and compliance with regulatory and sponsor requirements
including through information, advice, training, document review and policy development
Providing information on funding opportunities
including via major sponsor summaries, special calls, training in the use of funding databases (e.g. ResearchProfessional.com) and customised searches/e-mail alerts, personal advice and referrals to Divisional/Departmental Research Facilitators
Supporting the development of the University's knowledge exchange/knowledge transfer activities and its partnerships with key external organisations
including via service coordination, promoting the scale and value of the University's engagement in knowledge transfer and supporting its relationships with key corporate and Government collaborators
Facilitating technology transfer
including through advising on intellectual property (IP), IP rights management and supporting the work of Isis Innovation Ltd
Leading the continuous improvement of research administration at Oxford
including through customer feedback, process review, joint development projects, information systems, training, professional networks and external advocacy
Research Accounts
The Research Accounts team is part of the Finance Division. The team works closely with departmental finance officers, administrators and with Research Services in connection with post-award financial management of research.
Research Accounts’ main responsibilities are:
- Raising claims, invoices and statements to research customers
- Managing funder debt
- Setting up and amending all research awards on the grants module of Oracle Financials
- The University's internal and external financial reporting on research
- Overseeing the effective management of research finance audits, external and internal, including coordinated preparation for and hosting of audit visits and inspections
