Applying for funding
We encourage researchers and Departments to contact us for advice and assistance at any stage of the preparation of their applications, and, particularly in the case of large-scale applications, our involvement early in the process can be very beneficial to all parties.
Reviewing and authorising applications
All applications for external research funding, including Outline/Preliminary applications and electronic applications must first be approved by the relevant Head of Department and then (except for applications for less than £20k with no associated staff costs) endorsed on behalf of the University by Research Services, before they can be submitted to the sponsor.
Please note that Research Services requires 5 working days to process and authorise all applications.
In addition departmental administrators also need time to prepare a costing, check that the research proposed can be carried out within the department and obtain the necessary departmental approvals. Researchers are therefore advised to notify departmental administrators as soon as possible once they have decided to submit an application.
